FInal Exam

To be honest, I think that this final exam isn't really hard like the last midterm. It probably was because I studied more, or because the test is just really easier. I was pretty ready, about 95% ready. The 5% I was unsure about was the literary devices used in the poem "Paul Revere's Ride". The teacher was talking about the metaphors and symbolisms before the test. I did understand what he was saying, but then when I was writing the last question, the essay, every thing he said didn't make sense at all. So, I think I didn't really do a good job on that question. When the teacher said "The exam is really easy", I didn't want to kill him because I was pretty sure that I would do ok on the test! I was confident about basically almost everything in the test, since I kind of memorized every vocabulary in the text book. For example, onomatopoeia is like the words that makes a sound. I also remembered the kinds of poems the text book mentioned, and I think that it was kind of useful since there was a question asking about what kind of poem "Paul Revere's Ride" is.

Independent Reading Project Reflection

From doing this independent reading project, I learned that in order to make a good project, it should be well thought and well planned. It would be easier if the project is  well thought. For my project, when I bought the poster paper, I thought that it would be long enough for me to fit all the pictures I wanted, but then when I was almost finished drawing, I realized that the room wasn't enough to fit everything, and the end of the poster was kind of squishy, because I had to put everything in. I think that actually a project isn't necessary, because since we have a book report to write already, the teacher will be able to know whether we understand the book or not. Doing the project takes too much time, and because it is almost the finals week, the time that we could use to study will be spent on doing the project. It isn't that it's wasting money, it's that since I was preparing for the project, I wasn't able to study enough for tests.

My Most and Least Favorite

I believe that in this year, I didn't really like any of the books, although they were all awarded. But if I have to choose my favorite one, I would definitely choose "The Outsiders", because it feels more realistic and more suitable for teenagers to read. The vocabulary isn't hard, and the author has a casual way of writing, which won't make me feel intense. It also shows many characteristics of people, because of the diversity of the characters. It also showed how real friends are willing to sacrifice themselves for each other. The book I disliked the most would probably be both "Hatchet" and "The Chinese Cinderella". I don't like "Hatchet" because I just don't like those books talking about survival skills, because all of them are similar. Trying to find food, meeting obstacles, wanting to give up... etc. I didn't like "The Chinese Cinderella" because it felt that the author was over exaggerating the story, and trying to make her family members seem like bad people. No matter how they treat you, they still were the ones that raised you up.

The epic hero

Epic heroes and sport heroes both make people that support them happy, because they fulfilled their dreams. Also, both of them are very proud of themselves for being able to do things that many other people aren't able to. They are different in ways that sport heroes won't die even if they lost the game, unless people get too emotional and kill them, but epic heroes may die when they lose their battle. Beowulf does meet the requirements of being a epic hero, because he killed many monsters, which obviously would be many people's dream to have the monsters killed. And, those people are of course really happy. He also is very proud of himself, we can see that from the part where he went to the king and persuaded the king to let him go kill the monster without any weapons or men. Casey sort of meets the requirements. He is proud of himself, since when people were shouting to kill the umpire, he just raised his hand. It shows that he thinks that he's like the pope in a church, and is self-satisfied. But, although he is proud, he didn't meet the requirement to make people happy and fulfill their dreams. He got stroke out when people expected him to hit a homerun.
